Abdominal strength and deep breathing
Effective breathing for deep diving depends largely on your abdominal strength. This means that you must be in a position to control your abdomen at all times if you need to stay underwater for a longer period of time. There is always a direct relationship between abdominal strength and breathing. For instance, divers are trained to learn how to contain a full lung capacity volume when diving. Full lung capacity is crucial as it makes sure that the body cells remains viable for a longer period of time while you under water. One of the techniques which is important for diving is accruing abdominal strength for deep breathing.
Breathing deeply and holding longer
For a free diver to stay and even hunt underwater for more than a minute, he/she must be able to breathe deeply and holding his/her breathe longer than expected. This is one of the techniques which divers in Malaysia and in Philippines utilize most of the time. Breathing deeply before diving is basically taking in more air that will last you for a whole minute or so. Some of the divers may hold it until they are out of the water while some will hold it and release it bit by bit while under water.
Breathing deep and releasing in small quantities
This is a technique that is almost the same as that used by divers who have breathing aid. If you have seen divers with oxygen tanks on their backs, you will realize that bubbles are being released occasionally when the diver is basically exhaling. This applies for free divers because they take in lung-full of air and may release it bit by bit as they progress. This breathing technique is good for long range free divers.
